n

The maximum number of Progress users on the system. After n users have connected to the OpenEdge database, additional user startup attempts are rejected.

On systems that do not use shared memory, use Number of Users (-n) to limit the total number of users below the level that overloads the database server.

On shared-memory systems, -n must be high enough to include local and remote users as well as background writers (APWs, BIWs, and AIWs), PROWDOG processes, and PROMON sessions. For more information, see the Minimum Clients per Server (-Mi) and Maximum Servers (-Mn) startup parameters.
